Official WHO Definition

Wastewater lagoon which has very little dissolved oxygen. This condition is the result of oxygen uptake by micro-organisms in the lagoon exceeding oxygen transfer from the air, and occurs in the first lagoon in a series of lagoons (UNEP 2008). See lagoon
