An acute febrile syndrome caused by dengue arbovirus type 1–4, commonly transmitted by the mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus which breed in small water bodies in containers, car tyres etc. (WHO et al. 2003).See dengue haemorrhagic fever.

Interpretations and Explanations

Dengue is often called breakbone fever because it is characterized by severe pain in joints and back. Subsequent infections of dengue virus may lead to dengue haemorrhagic fever which can be fatal (WHO et al. 2003).
