In irrigatino it is a water reservoir constructed between a water source and irrigated fields to allow for the storage of water during the night time (WHO et al. 1996).

It can be used to reduce irrigating time and water can be saved by irrigating during the daytime only, when plants absorb water more efficiently (WHO et al. 1996).
