Background & Experience

I have a First Class BSc (Hons) in Geographical Sciences from Bristol University (UK), an MSc Environment, Science and Society with distinction from University College London, and a Graduate Diploma in Law from the College of Law, London.

During my university summer holidays I gained invaluable experience working on international development projects on the ground in various African countries for a total period of 6 months. I have taken part in various development and environmental orientated initiatives in Namibia, and completed an 8 week long grassroots Water and Sanitation project in a remote rural village in Uganda in 2007. The latter involved working with other student volunteers from Bristol and Oxford University, alongside Little Big Africa, to provide Water, Sanitation and Health (WASH) education at Lwemuna Primary School and within Bunakhaima community at large. We also constructed a water tank for the school that harvests rainwater and protected unprotected water sources in order to improve the quality of drinking water, and subsequently personal health. Capacity building, participation, empowerment (especially of women and children), and local ownership/management were all integral to our approach.

Since working for UNDP I have, inter alia, undertaken scoping missions to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tajikistan, Kosovo and Serbia for UNDP's A Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) to Improve Water Governance in Europe & CIS regional programme. In addition I have been involved with the working groups and task forces of the UNECE Protocol on Water and Health, and with the UN Independent Expert on Right to water and sanitation's work on identifying criteria for good practices in achieving the right to water and sanitation.
