Water Cooperation Initiatives: Middle East

Coordinators: Geneva Initiative (Palestinian and Israeli NGO) and Annapolis Friends Peace and Justice Center (Quaker group, USA)
Palestinian and Israeli engineers, as well as representatives with close ties to the Israeli government and Palestinian National Authority, met for three days of intense discussions on the difficult water issues. Israeli and Palestinian teams had been formed in advance to develop a model agreement on water that was negotiated during the meeting with international assistance from advisors and mediators.
The draft water agreement is to be offered to official government negotiators as a possible framework for water cooperation in the “final status agreement” that would bring peace to Israelis and Palestinians.
