Summary

This Assessment aims to provide an action agenda for MDG acceleration by reviewing progress thus far and identifying the strategies, policies and interventions for further acceleration. The information is collected from a sample of 50 country reports, including MDG documentation from other sources. It begins with a discussion of the inter-linkages across the MDGs, and then (a) provides an overview of key MDG achievements and gaps at the global, regional and country levels, (b) discusses emerging constraints, which have undermined and, in some cases, reversed MDG progress, (c) outlines possible strategies and policies for accelerating and sustaining MDG progress in the coming years, (d) identifies the progress made in the global partnership, (e) proposes an Action Agenda for the years between now and 2015. Progress made in water and sanitation is also covered by this report.
